Job Description

The Kitchen Steward is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, hygiene, organization, and smooth operation of kitchen and food-service areas within an exclusive luxury destination.

The role supports the culinary and Food and Beverage teams by ensuring that equipment, utensils, work areas, and service items are consistently clean, sanitized, organized, and readily available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize kitchen areas, workstations, floors, walls, sinks, storage areas, and service zones.
  • Wash, rinse, sanitize, dry, and store crockery, cutlery, glassware, cookware, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
  • Operate dishwashing and cleaning equipment safely and correctly.
  • Support the kitchen team with the cleaning and preparation of equipment and work areas before, during, and after service.
  • Ensure clean equipment and utensils are available when required.
  • Handle kitchen tools, chemicals, cleaning materials, and equipment according to safety instructions.
  • Follow all hygiene, sanitation, food-safety, health, and workplace-safety procedures.
  • Maintain proper waste-separation, disposal, and recycling practices.
  • Keep waste areas clean, secure, and free from unpleasant odors or hazards.
  • Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing kitchen supplies when required.
  • Support the safe movement of supplies, equipment, and materials within designated areas.
  • Report damaged, missing, or malfunctioning equipment to the Kitchen Supervisor or Maintenance team.
  • Maintain clean and organized storage areas and ensure items are returned to their proper locations.
  • Assist with deep-cleaning schedules, pest-prevention measures, and routine hygiene inspections.
  • Maintain a professional, discreet, and respectful approach when working around guests, visitors, and colleagues.
  • Coordinate with Kitchen, Food and Beverage, Housekeeping, Engineering, Stores, and other departments as required.
  • Contribute to an efficient, positive, and team-focused working environment.
  • Attend briefings, training sessions, safety meetings, and departmental inspections.
  • Perform other reasonable duties assigned by management.

Desired Skill & Expertise

  • Previous experience as a Kitchen Steward, Dishwasher, Cleaner, Stewarding Assistant, or in a similar role is preferred.
  • Experience within a luxury, premium, private, corporate, lifestyle, or high-end environment is an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of kitchen hygiene, sanitation, cleaning procedures, and safe chemical handling.
  • Ability to operate commercial dishwashing and cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to follow instructions and maintain consistent cleaning standards.
  • Physically fit and able to stand, walk, bend, lift, and work for extended periods.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, public holidays, and busy service periods.
  • Basic communication skills in English; additional languages are an advantage.
  • Relevant food-safety or hygiene training is preferred.
