Job Description

The Kitchen Technician is responsible for maintaining, servicing, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of kitchen equipment and related technical systems within an exclusive luxury destination.

The role works closely with the Food and Beverage and culinary teams to support reliable daily operations, minimize equipment downtime, and maintain high standards of safety, hygiene, functionality, and presentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair kitchen equipment and related systems.
  • Support the operation and maintenance of ovens, ranges, grills, fryers, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, exhaust systems, food preparation equipment, and other kitchen appliances.
  • Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance according to approved schedules.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, technical issues, and urgent maintenance requests.
  • Diagnose faults and complete repairs safely, efficiently, and to the required standard.
  • Coordinate with the Food and Beverage and culinary teams to schedule maintenance with minimal disruption to operations.
  • Conduct regular inspections of food production areas, storage areas, service areas, equipment, and utility connections.
  • Check electrical, plumbing, gas, ventilation, drainage, refrigeration, and temperature-control systems related to kitchen operations.
  • Ensure equipment is installed, operated, and maintained in accordance with manufacturer instructions and safety requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, work orders, equipment history, and replacement requirements.
  • Report recurring defects, potential risks, and equipment-replacement needs to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Maintain an appropriate stock of tools, spare parts, and technical materials.
  • Coordinate with approved contractors and suppliers when specialist support is required.
  • Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, replacements, and improvement projects.
  • Support compliance with health, safety, fire, food-safety, hygiene, and environmental requirements.
  • Ensure work areas are kept clean, safe, and organized after maintenance activities.
  • Follow lockout/tagout procedures and other safe-working practices where applicable.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding organizational operations, facilities, and technical systems.
  • Attend team briefings, training sessions, safety meetings, and inspections.
  • Perform other reasonable duties assigned by the Maintenance Manager or management.

Desired Skill & Expertise

  • Technical diploma, vocational qualification, or equivalent experience in Electrical, Mechanical, Refrigeration, Plumbing, HVAC, or a related field.
  • Previous experience maintaining commercial or professional kitchen equipment is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems, refrigeration, gas systems, plumbing, ventilation, and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to read basic technical manuals, equipment specifications, and service instructions.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety, fire-safety, hygiene, and food-safety requirements.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, weekends, public holidays, and respond to urgent technical issues when required.
  • Relevant technical licenses or certifications are an advantage.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Fluency in English is required; additional languages are an advantage.
