The Mason is responsible for performing skilled masonry work, including constructing, repairing, and maintaining surfaces and structures made of brick, block, concrete, stone, and tile throughout the property. In a hospitality setting, this role plays a key part in maintaining aesthetic standards and ensuring guest and staff safety. The Mason supports ongoing maintenance operations, renovations, and special projects in guest areas, public spaces, and back-of-house facilities.
Perform all types of masonry work, including blockwork, plastering, tiling, bricklaying, concrete casting, and surface finishing.
Repair and maintain walls, walkways, floors, ceilings, and other structural or decorative elements.
Lay tiles, mix cement, grout surfaces, and conduct waterproofing work where required.
Carry out plastering and patching of interior and exterior walls and ceilings.
Prepare surfaces for painting or finishing work by other trades.
Read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions for renovation or repair projects.
Assist in small-scale construction and renovation tasks within the property.
Ensure proper use, cleaning, and storage of masonry tools and equipment.
Monitor material usage and notify supervisors when supplies are running low.
Follow all safety protocols, particularly when working in guest-accessible areas.
Support other engineering trades with civil-related repairs and maintenance tasks as needed.
Respond promptly to maintenance work orders and service requests from other departments.
Education & Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Vocational or technical certification in masonry or civil works is preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 3–5 years of experience as a mason in facility maintenance, construction, or hospitality environments.
Experience working in hotels, resorts, or commercial buildings is an asset.
Technical Skills:
Proficient in various masonry techniques including tile laying, plastering, and concrete work.
Ability to use masonry tools such as trowels, hammers, levels, mixers, and tile cutters.
Basic understanding of civil construction materials and repair methods.
Soft Skills:
Attention to detail and high-quality workmanship.
Ability to work independently or within a team.
Good communication and time management skills.
