Job Description

The Commis 1 is responsible for preparing and cooking food in their assigned kitchen section, working closely under the supervision of senior chefs. The role involves supporting daily kitchen operations, ensuring cleanliness and hygiene standards are upheld, assisting with mise en place, and contributing to the consistency and quality of food preparation and presentation.

 

  • Prepare ingredients and cook basic dishes in accordance with recipes and guidelines provided by senior chefs.

  • Assist in mise en place for assigned sections (e.g., hot kitchen, cold kitchen, pastry).

  • Follow food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards as per HACCP and hotel policies.

  • Ensure all kitchen equipment and workstations are cleaned and maintained properly.

  • Work collaboratively with the kitchen team to ensure smooth and timely service.

  • Label, date, and store food items correctly to minimize waste and ensure freshness.

  • Report any equipment malfunction or safety hazard to the Chef de Partie or Sous Chef.

  • Take part in training sessions to develop cooking techniques and knowledge.

  • Maintain personal grooming and uniform standards in line with hotel requirements.

  • Adapt to rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, as per business needs.

Desired Skill & Expertise

  • Diploma or certificate in Culinary Arts or equivalent is preferred.

  • 1–2 years of experience in a similar role in a hotel or restaurant.

  • Basic knowledge of food preparation and kitchen operations.

  • Ability to follow instructions, recipes, and standard operating procedures.

  • Passion for food and willingness to learn and grow in a professional kitchen.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

  • Flexibility to work in various sections of the kitchen as needed.
